Carry-On Weight Limits: Per Bag and Combined

Carry-on weight rules are useful only when their scope is clear. A limit can apply to one bag or to all cabin items together. A blank numeric value in a comparison is not proof of unlimited carriage, and an anecdote about an unchecked bag is not permission to exceed a published rule.

Read the unit of allowance

Vietjet VJ Eco illustrates the combined model: its main bag and permitted small item share 7 kg. A 6 kg main bag plus a 2 kg personal item totals 8 kg, even if each piece separately looks acceptable. Moving the laptop between those bags does not fix the excess.

The published Vietjet fare table has higher totals for Deluxe, SkyBoss and Business, with route-group conditions. A generic priority selection is not proof of having purchased one of those fares. Read the Vietjet guide for the distinctions.

Weigh before leaving

Start with the empty bag, then weigh it again when fully packed. Include electronics, toiletries, food and purchases that count under the carrier’s rule. When the allowance is combined, use the sum of all included items. Leave practical room for anything you expect to add; this is a packing choice, not an airline tolerance.

The checker assesses the entered bag against the modeled limits. It cannot certify a two-bag total from one bag’s weight. Read its policy notes and use the route checker when different operators apply.

Do not plan around an inspection prediction

This site has no measured airport-wide weighing frequencies. Published limits remain relevant regardless of whether staff weigh a particular passenger. If over the allowance, reduce the load or arrange the appropriate checked service. Fees and acceptance depend on the operator and ticket; obtain a current quote rather than assuming a universal gate price.
