Carry-On Packing for a Destination Wedding

Start with the wedding schedule and your booked baggage allowance. A ceremony outfit, other clothes and accessories may fit in cabin baggage, but a packing list cannot guarantee that every dress fits every fare.

Give each item a job

This is a planning example, not a fixed weight or item allowance. Remove duplicate shoes and outfits only if the remaining pieces cover the events. Do not put jewellery loose inside shoes or compress a structured dress to meet an assumed volume target.

Measure the finished bags

Check piece count, dimensions and weight for each operating carrier and fare. Weigh the empty bag too, then the complete load. There is no universal 20–23 kg checked allowance or standard cabin size. A garment bag must also fit the applicable allowance; see the separate transport guide.

If cabin-only packing fails, first remove optional items. Then compare a confirmed larger allowance or checked-bag option. Moving items between bags does not remove individual or combined limits. Keep documents, medication and valuables accessible, and remove items required to stay in the cabin before any gate check.

Arrange the destination details

Ask the garment maker about folding and care. Confirm any pressing service, completion time and price before relying on it. Check each airport’s rules for perfume, aerosols and tools, rather than assuming one global liquid rule. If sending gifts ahead, confirm recipient acceptance, delivery timing and customs requirements; shipping is not risk-free.

Leave room for the return trip and repeat the packed-bag check before departure.
