China Southern carry-on: 8 kg per bag and class limits

China Southern’s current allowance is 8 kg per main cabin bag, with maximum dimensions of 55 × 40 × 20 cm. The same table covers domestic and international/regional flights. Economy and Premium Economy include one main bag; Business and First include two, each subject to its own 8 kg limit.

Allowance by cabin

A two-piece allowance does not allow one 16 kg suitcase. Check each bag separately. The table excludes infants travelling without a seat.

Personal item and family equipment

Seated passengers may additionally bring one small computer bag, camera bag, briefcase or handbag, stored under the seat in front. The reviewed page does not publish a numeric size or separate weight for this item. That is an unknown limit, not a promise that a large backpack or any weight will be accepted.

For passengers with infants, the page also lists infant food, a baby basket and a foldable lightweight stroller. A folded stroller may enter the cabin when its length + width + height is no greater than 115 cm; larger ones must be checked. Confirm arrangements for your actual equipment and available cabin space. Do not assume a lap infant has a second adult cabin allowance.

Measure before departure

Measure the fully packed exterior and weigh the bag with all contents. The reviewed table does not explicitly define the treatment of wheels and handles, so include protrusions conservatively and stow retractable handles. A bag sold as “20 inch” or “cabin size” still needs an actual measurement.

Excess bags and security

China Southern may inspect baggage at check-in, security, the gate or in the cabin. Oversize, overweight or extra pieces should be checked before boarding; applicable excess charges depend on the journey. There is no verified universal online-versus-gate price here. Limited storage can also cause gate checking, and the airline warns that the bag may travel on a different flight.

China’s domestic liquid rules differ from the international 100 ml rule. Domestic screening generally prohibits liquids, with specified exceptions for small personal cosmetics, toothpaste/shaving cream, necessary infant milk and liquid medicine. International/regional departures use containers up to 100 ml in one transparent resealable bag up to one litre. Transfer and duty-free conditions also matter: check the CAAC liquid section and each departure airport. Check batteries and other restricted items separately through the official baggage information.

The official cabin table is the source for bag limits, additional items and stroller conditions. Older advice quoting 5 kg Economy or 10 kg Business is not used. Do not infer an automatic SkyTeam benefit from older guides; China Southern’s issuer filing records its departure from the alliance. Partner benefits must be checked for the actual booking.
