Air France Checked Baggage: Fare Allowances and Extra Fees

Your Air France ticket and My Bookings show how many checked bags are included. Cabin name alone is insufficient: the current official checked-baggage tab gives fare-dependent ranges, including zero bags on some Premium fares.

Included pieces and weight

The standard external size limit is 158 cm in total: length + width + height, including pockets, wheels and handles. Measure your packed suitcase; an advertised diagonal or inch category does not establish its linear total.

Flying Blue Silver and Gold receive one additional checked piece. Platinum and Ultimate receive two under the published Air France allowance. Apply the weight rule for the cabin and confirm the benefit in the booking. These benefits are distinct from the cabin-bag benefit on Basic; Gold status does not create two overhead bags in Economy.

Extra pieces, excess size and excess weight

Prices depend on your itinerary and booking. There is no universal €100 overweight fee in the current policy. Multiple applicable options can be charged together. For ordinary bags beyond 300 cm or 32 kg, the airline directs passengers to Air France Cargo; special equipment may have its own policy.

The additional-baggage page advertises an advance-purchase discount at least 24 hours before departure, except flights to or from the United States and Canada, where online and airport additional-bag prices are the same. Buying an extra piece does not increase the weight limit of another piece.

Purchase is available during booking, through My Bookings up to 30 hours before departure, or during online check-in at eligible airports. The separate 24-hour discount condition does not guarantee every purchase channel remains available until that time. Check the live booking quote. The total is limited to ten pieces, or three on some aircraft; contact the airline when travelling with more than three pieces per person.

Children and connections

A lap infant can have a checked bag up to 10 kg when the ticket conditions include checked baggage; the checked-baggage page expressly excludes Light. One stroller or framed carrier and one car seat can travel in the hold free regardless of fare. A child aged two or above, or an infant with their own booked seat, has the adult allowance for the ticket and cabin. See the official family rules.

For connections, use the baggage allowance printed on the ticket. The official page describes marketing-flight-number and itinerary rules, including special application for journeys to or from the United States and Canada. A partner-operated connection or return itinerary should not be assumed to use the same rule without checking.

Keep cabin and hold decisions separate

Air France Basic normally includes only the small cabin bag; Light should not be substituted for that fare name. Ordinary overhead bags are up to 55×35×25 cm; the small bag is up to 40×30×15 cm. Economy and Premium share a 12 kg total across all cabin items, while Business and La Première share 18 kg. US departures restrict the cabin count to one overhead bag and one small bag.
