Delta Carry-On Rules: Size, Personal Item and Basic Economy

Delta includes one carry-on and one personal item, including in Basic Economy. Measure your packed bag before checking its fare allowance.

Source: Delta carry-on policy. A bag advertised as “22 inch” may describe only its body. Extend a tape between its furthest outside points while it is packed.

Check your bag against Delta. Use inches when your suitcase is measured in inches: converting the rounded centimetre display back into inches can move a borderline bag over the limit. The checker evaluates dimensions and default fare entitlement; it cannot reserve bin space.

Basic Economy and bin space

You do not need status, a credit card or a paid carry-on add-on for the standard allowance. Delta's fare-experience FAQ confirms that free carry-on service remains included. See the Basic Economy guide for the distinction between baggage and fare restrictions.

Small Delta Connection aircraft can require your larger bag to travel in the hold. A pink planeside tag identifies bags returned when you deplane. On other gate-check occasions, ask where to collect the bag; do not assume every tag means jet-bridge delivery. Full bins can affect any fare.

Put your itinerary through the same check

1. Find the operating airline for each flight in your booking.
2. Enter your outside measurements, then check each carrier's allowance in the route tool.
3. Keep the things you need during the flight together, ready to remove if your case is gate-checked.
