Delta Checked Baggage: Fees, Size and Weight Limits

Check both the allowance and the price for your exact trip. Delta's current US domestic table lists $45 for the first standard bag and $55 for the second, each way, for Main and Comfort passengers without applicable benefits.

To measure a case, add its three packed outside dimensions. For example, 28 + 19 + 10 = 57 inches. That answers the size question; weigh the bag separately and check how many pieces your booking includes.

Get the actual price before bag drop

Open Calculate Baggage Estimate on Delta's official baggage page. Have these details ready:

• Your route in both directions and the ticket purchase date.
• The cabin and fare shown on the booking.
• The number of pieces and each bag's measured weight and size.
• Any traveler benefit already attached to the reservation.
• The operating carrier on connecting flights.

Compare the final quote with your booking allowance. An international destination alone does not establish that a bag is free. Check destination embargoes, particularly if you need extra or unusually large bags.

Domestic excess-bag charges

The following comes from Delta's US / US Virgin Islands / Puerto Rico tables. It is not the international schedule.

Charges can accumulate. For example, a first domestic Main bag charged at $45, weighing 60 lb and within the standard size, would total $145 if no exception applies: $45 + $100. This is a worked example, not an itinerary quote.

Benefits already available to you

Eligible Gold, Platinum and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Amex card families have a first-standard-bag benefit for the primary cardholder and up to eight companions on the same reservation, under the published conditions. Blue is not on the eligible-card list.

From 4 June 2026, the second-standard-bag benefit on eligible domestic Delta flights applies to the primary cardholder. It does not automatically cover every companion; each traveler needs their own eligibility. The wording “Basic Card Member” here means the primary cardholder, not a Basic Economy fare.

Confirm the operating carrier, SkyMiles number, reservation and size/weight conditions in Delta's card-benefit terms. Medallion and military benefits have their own conditions; use the official estimate with your traveler details.

Could this bag travel in the cabin?

Delta includes an ordinary carry-on and personal item even in Basic Economy. Read Delta cabin rules and check the outside dimensions. The cabin checker does not calculate your checked-baggage entitlement or price.
