ITA Airways — carry-on rules: size, weight and fares

ITA’s current published allowance is one 55×40×23 cm cabin bag up to 8 kg, including wheels, handles and side pockets, plus one 40×30×15 cm personal item. The current cabin page does not grant a second bag or 10–12 kg just for Business Class.

Allowance

Do not use the older 55×35×25 cm limit: a 55×40×23 cm bag fits the current box, while 55×35×25 cm exceeds its 23 cm depth. Measure the packed bag instead of trusting a model name or an old airline-compliance label.

For codeshares, ITA directs passengers to the operating partner; for mixed-airline connections, contact its Customer Center. It separately states that the marketing airline’s baggage policy applies to/from the USA. Confirm the allowance on your particular ticket rather than assuming an alliance-wide rule.

Before departure

Measure the fully packed bag, including protruding wheels, handles and pockets. Weigh it after packing. A stated size or weight limit is not a tolerance: 8.1 kg exceeds an 8 kg limit. Check every flight on a connection, including the operating carrier and booked allowance.

Family travel

Children or infants with their own seat have one 8 kg cabin bag in the family table, including Light. For lap infants, the introduction allows a small bag but the Light table says no baggage: confirm this with ITA. Do not treat the infant checked allowance as cabin baggage. A folding stroller travels free for children up to 11, subject to check-in procedures. Cabin use of a car seat requires a booked seat and advance notification.

Security and gate collection

On busy flights, ITA may collect cabin bags at the gate, label them and provide a receipt for collection after landing. Its published provision excludes intercontinental flights. Bags outside the size or weight requirements may be refused in the cabin; no universal tolerance or gate price is established.

Ordinary liquids generally use containers up to 100 ml in one transparent resealable 1-litre bag. Necessary medicine, dietary products and baby food have screening exceptions. Check current departure and transfer airport instructions and keep sealed duty-free purchases with their receipt. Keep documents and essential medication accessible if staff collect your bag.
