LATAM Carry-On: Sizes, 12/16 kg and Basic vs Light

LATAM permits one main cabin bag up to 55×35×25 cm: 12 kg in Economy or 16 kg in Premium Economy and Premium Business. Wheels, handles and projecting pockets count. Every fare includes one underseat personal item up to 45×35×20 cm. A bag fitting those measurements still needs to be included in your fare or purchased.

Basic is not Light. LATAM's main English baggage page and Spanish fare tables include a main bag with Light. The Portuguese international fare table instead marks it as an extra charge. The Brazilian Portuguese regional table includes it. Check the baggage line in your booking and resolve a discrepancy with LATAM before departure; do not infer entitlement from the fare name alone. Basic is offered on specified domestic/regional routes, excluding Brazil-origin routes.

Personal-item weight and measuring

The general baggage FAQ specifies 10 kg for the personal item. The Brazilian Portuguese regional table lists 12 kg in Premium cabins. This is a scoped difference, not permission for unlimited weight. The checker therefore shows no universal personal-item weight limit; confirm the applicable fare table. The reviewed sources do not describe the main and personal limits as a single combined cap.

Measure your packed bag, including protrusions. A 55×40×25 cm case exceeds LATAM's 35 cm side even though a shop may call it cabin luggage. Volume in litres does not prove compliance.

Buying a bag and gate handling

LATAM's cabin page allows a Basic main-bag purchase in My Trips up to six hours before departure. If you reach the gate without the required purchase, or the bag exceeds the limit, LATAM describes a higher charge and transport in the hold. Payment does not guarantee overhead space. A compliant included bag sent to the hold solely because the cabin is full is checked without charge.

The checker compares dimensions and modeled class limits. Choose Basic only for Basic; for Light, verify inclusion separately. It cannot resolve your route, issued fare, loyalty benefit or the official table discrepancy.

Checked bags, children and screening

Standard checked bags are 23 kg and 158 cm total. Economy Standard/Full and Premium Economy Standard/Full include one; Premium Business Standard includes one and Full two. Basic and Light require a checked-bag purchase. Route limits and status benefits need their own confirmation.

A lap infant under two may have an extra 45×35×20 cm item. For children aged 0–11, LATAM permits one folding stroller or child restraint free; cabin carriage depends on space. Using a car seat onboard requires an approved restraint and a purchased seat. Do not assume two free devices or aircraft-door return.

LATAM's international liquids guidance is 100 ml per ordinary container in one resealable 1-litre bag. Domestic, transfer, medicine and infant-food conditions differ. Airline baggage entitlement, security screening and customs are separate checks.
