SkyTeam Carry-On Rules: Status & Allowance Guide
How SkyTeam status affects cabin baggage: operating-airline limits, fare inclusion, boarding priority and the difference from checked-bag benefits.
SkyTeam status does not create a single cabin-baggage allowance. Start with the airline operating each flight, then check the cabin, fare and any applicable membership benefit on your booking. Do not add a generic status bonus to the weight shown in the airline's cabin rules.
What your status changes
For Delta members, Silver Medallion corresponds to SkyTeam Elite; Gold, Platinum and Diamond correspond to Elite Plus. Delta's partner tables list benefits with carrier and fare conditions. Priority boarding can help you board earlier, but does not reserve overhead space. Lounge access also has eligibility conditions.
An “extra baggage allowance” benefit may describe additional weight or pieces. That wording alone does not establish extra hand baggage: look for a specific cabin-baggage entitlement before packing more. A checked-bag benefit cannot be treated as permission for a heavier cabin bag.

Air France and KLM do not publish an automatic extra 12 kg of cabin baggage for every Elite Plus traveller in these general cabin policies. Their 12 kg Economy limit is combined across the included cabin items. Garuda's general policy does not establish a universal extra 3 kg for Elite Plus. Do not use either supposed bonus when deciding what to pack.

Before a connecting journey
- Find the operating airline for every segment, including codeshares.
- Check which bags your actual fare includes. Enter the frequent-flyer number and confirm any claimed benefit appears in the reservation.
- Measure the packed bag including protrusions and weigh all items that share a combined limit.
- Check each bag against every operating airline. A passing size result does not establish fare inclusion, status recognition or remaining space onboard.
Use the bag checker for dimensions and the multi-airline route tool for connecting flights. These tools do not determine elite-status eligibility. Keep the ticket's baggage details available and ask the operating airline to resolve any mismatch before departure.
