TAP Air Portugal Checked Baggage Rules

Check the fare and destination together. The normal limit per piece is 23 kg in Economy or 32 kg in Business, with a total of 158 cm across three dimensions. Bags above 32 kg require cargo transport; paying an excess fee does not make a 40 kg suitcase ordinary checked baggage.

Included pieces

The official table has important exceptions: Classic and Plus to/from medium- and long-haul Africa include two 23 kg pieces. Basic to/from Luanda or Maputo includes two 23 kg pieces; Discount on those routes includes one. A blank cell is not evidence that a fare is offered with zero bags. Confirm the allowance printed for your booking.

Eligible status and card benefits

Navigator, TAP Miles&Go Gold, Star Alliance Gold and TAP Platinum Visa are listed for one extra piece regardless of fare: 23 kg in Economy/Economy Prime or 32 kg in Business. Do not substitute a 32 kg Gold benefit for Economy or assume a Silver bonus from this table.

For journeys involving at least two member airlines, TAP describes qualifying Navigator/Gold benefits as 20 kg extra under a weight system or one additional piece under a piece system. The ticket's applicable baggage rules remain important.

Buying bags and handling excess

TAP advertises extra pieces online from EUR 30, but the actual quote depends on route, date, booking channel and advance purchase. Overweight, oversize and combined excess have separate route/season tables. There is no universal EUR 50 airport fee or guaranteed saving percentage.

Cabin bags, infants and connections

Discount's checked allowance must not be confused with its cabin allowance. Economy includes a 55×40×25 cm main bag up to 10 kg plus a 40×30×15 cm personal item up to 2 kg. See the TAP cabin guide.

TAP's infant page lists a 10 kg checked allowance with total dimensions up to 115 cm, except Discount, plus one foldable stroller, car seat or carrycot. Confirm the ticket-specific allowance and special equipment conditions.

For multi-airline trips, the applicable hold allowance can follow the relevant marketing carrier and itinerary rules, including specific US/Canada treatment. Do not assume that every segment simply uses its operating airline's checked allowance. Confirm baggage tags and whether collection is required at a transfer.
