Copa Checked Baggage: Basic, Classic, Full and Business

The standard Copa fare-family table for regular passengers and ConnectMiles Base members gives Classic one checked bag up to 23 kg, Full two bags up to 23 kg each, and Business Promo/Full two bags up to 32 kg each. Economy Basic charges checked bags separately. Confirm the actual allowance in Copa’s baggage calculator: route, purchase and travel dates, fare and status can change the result.

Standard fare table

The current passenger cabin page also includes a 43×25×22 cm personal item. Business does not automatically grant two main cabin bags. Status benefits and the narrow connecting Gold exception require confirmation for the itinerary.

Size, weight and extra charges

The standard checked size is 158 cm total, excluding wheels according to Copa’s checked-baggage page. Cabin measurement includes wheels and handles; do not transfer that checked-bag measurement instruction to cabin baggage.

Excess-piece, overweight and oversize charges can accumulate. The current page lists weight bands through 33–45 kg in its excess-charge table, so a blanket statement that every bag over 32 kg is always refused is incorrect. That table does not guarantee acceptance on your route. Check route restrictions, seasonal embargoes and equipment conditions before bringing a heavy or oversized bag. The page uses inconsistent upper oversize ranges in different sections; obtain confirmation for unusually large equipment instead of relying on the most permissive number.

There is no single first-bag or gate fee applicable to every booking. Use the official calculator with the actual itinerary and compare the total ticket-plus-bag cost before paying. Published excess fees are separate from the purchase of a normal checked bag.

Connections through Panama

Copa states that separate reservations require baggage collection and a new check-in. For a through itinerary, confirm the bag-tag destination and any collection requirement at the counter. Do not assume every connection, customs situation or partner-operated segment transfers bags automatically. The checked-baggage page applies the most restrictive fare when fares are mixed; verify the result for the complete journey.

The table above is for regular passengers and Base members. Enter your actual status in the calculator and inspect the matching fare-family table. Do not assume that an extra-piece benefit waives overweight or oversize charges, or that all alliance members have identical cabin allowances.

Before leaving home

1. Save the checked allowance shown in the booking for both directions.
2. Check the operating airline on every segment and current destination restrictions.
3. Weigh each bag separately; one heavier bag does not become compliant because another is lighter.
4. Measure the checked bag using the published 158 cm rule and clarify unusual equipment.
5. Keep documents, essential medicines and valuables accessible in your permitted cabin baggage.
