Turkish Airlines Baggage Policy: Fees, Limits & Allowances

Start with the baggage entry on your ticket. Turkish Airlines uses both weight and piece systems, so a fare name alone does not establish a worldwide checked allowance.

Cabin versus checked baggage

Star Alliance Gold does not increase cabin baggage. A compliant cabin bag can still be taken for free hold carriage when space requires; noncompliant excess may incur a charge. Keep items that must remain in the cabin accessible before handing over a bag.

Read the checked allowance correctly

Look for a total weight or a piece count on the confirmation. Turkish domestic flights use the weight system. Under the piece system, the standard per-bag weight is 23 kg in Economy or 32 kg in Business, but these limits do not establish how many pieces your ticket includes. Standard free-allowance dimensions total no more than 158 cm. No individual piece may exceed 32 kg.

EcoFly is not a promise of one free 23 kg bag: the official policy explicitly includes EcoFly routes without free checked baggage. The booking and official calculator provide the applicable inclusion and any extra-baggage quote.

Infant baggage and equipment

An infant has one cabin bag up to 8 kg. The published checked allowance is 10 kg in the weight system or one 23 kg piece in the piece system, except EcoFly routes without free checked baggage. The infant policy also lists a foldable stroller with a 115 cm limit. International infant ticket prices vary by route and date.

Stroller and infant-seat carriage has no surcharge under the infant page, but cabin use and aircraft-door return have specific conditions. A cabin stroller must be within 55×40×23 cm and 8 kg, packed in a pouch and tagged. Check the actual infant seat and booking requirements before relying on cabin use.

Connections through Istanbul

On the published international-to-international single-ticket Turkish/eligible partner connection, checked bags travel to the final destination. Separate-ticket and international-to-domestic cases have different procedures. Confirm the destination printed on the bag tag and follow the official transfer instructions for your itinerary; a shared booking reference or a generic layover duration does not replace that check.

For partner-operated cabin segments, check the operating carrier. Checked baggage can be governed by the itinerary’s applicable carrier rules, including different US/Canada interline provisions.

Plan the cost before departure

1. Read the included baggage on the ticket and check any status benefit.
2. Measure and weigh each bag; distinguish an extra piece from an overweight or oversized piece.
3. Obtain the official quote for the actual route and fare. There is no single global per-kilogram price or guaranteed percentage saving.
4. Keep the purchase confirmation and check the baggage tag at departure.
