Avianca carry-on: Basic, Light and the 10 kg limit

Every Avianca fare includes one personal item up to 45 × 35 × 20 cm, stored under the seat. A main cabin bag may measure 55 × 35 × 25 cm including handles and wheels and weigh up to 10 kg. Whether that main bag is included depends on the fare.

Basic and Light are different

For international Americas Light tickets bought before 27 January 2026, check the original ticket conditions. Do not apply the present inclusion retrospectively. Business does not give two main cabin bags. The standard checked-bag size is 158 cm total; checked allowance cannot be substituted for cabin entitlement.

Measure the packed bag

Measure the outside with protruding parts, not just the shell. A 55 × 40 × 20 cm suitcase exceeds Avianca’s 35 cm width even though its depth is smaller. A soft backpack still needs to fit at its packed size. Weigh the main bag after adding documents, chargers and anything bought at the airport.

The personal-item page does not state a separate numerical weight cap. That does not establish an unlimited allowance. The bag must fit under the seat. An oversized or overweight main bag may have to travel in the hold with applicable charges; no universal USD 40/60 fee or guaranteed overhead space is established.

Travelling with children

Children aged 2–11 receive their booked fare allowance. An infant under 2 receives an additional personal item; the infant page gives 46 × 36 × 20 cm for the diaper bag, a specific exception rather than the adult limit. The additional 10 kg checked infant allowance belongs to eligible Classic/Flex/Business tickets bought before 19 December 2025; do not assume it on a new booking.

One stroller or folding wagon is free for each child under 12. Cabin carriage up to 115 cm total and 10 kg depends on space; larger strollers go in the hold. Cabin car-seat use needs a purchased child seat and an approved restraint. The published infant car-seat limit is 68 × 35 × 43 cm; US routes have a separate under-18 free-car-seat rule. Confirm equipment handling for the itinerary.

Before departure

Check the operating airline on every segment, the exact fare and any paid main bag. Ordinary liquids use containers up to 100 ml under Avianca’s guidance; departure and transfer screening rules apply separately. Keep required cabin-only items accessible if staff need to check the suitcase.
