Carry-On Rules for Greece and Turkey: Compare Airlines

Compare the actual operating carrier, fare and aircraft for every leg. Greece and Turkey do not have a single country-wide cabin allowance, and a compliant bag on one service may exceed the next operator’s allowance.

Aegean Airlines

Aegean Economy allows one main bag up to 8 kg: 56 × 45 × 25 cm on Airbus or 55 × 40 × 23 cm on turboprops. Light includes the main bag OR one underseat personal item; Flex, Family and ComfortFlex include both. No numeric personal-item size is established. Business allows one main bag up to 13 kg plus one personal item.

Excess size or weight is checked and fees may apply. A compliant Light bag may instead be checked free at the gate for lack of cabin space. No airport-specific weighing frequency is established.

Olympic Air

The Aegean policy covers Olympic Air-operated flights, but the aircraft box matters: turboprops use 55 × 40 × 23 cm. A bag accepted under the Airbus 56 × 45 × 25 cm limit is not automatically suitable for a turboprop connection.

Sky Express

SKY express Economy includes one 55 × 40 × 23 cm main bag up to 8 kg plus one 40 × 30 × 15 cm personal item. BLISS and BLISS+ Business allow a 13 kg main bag. The former 6 kg figure does not match the current official allowance.

Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines Economy includes one 55×40×23 cm bag up to 8 kg plus one 40×30×15 cm personal item up to 4 kg. Business allows two bags up to 8 kg each, except that the second bag must be checked free on US departures. Star Alliance Gold does not increase cabin baggage. No airport-specific weight tolerance is established.

Pegasus Airlines

Pegasus international/North Cyprus Light includes only one 40×30×15 cm underseat bag up to 3 kg. Saver, Saver Plus, Comfort Flex or a purchased cabin option add one 55×40×23 cm bag up to 8 kg. A standalone domestic Türkiye flight includes one 8 kg cabin bag without an additional small bag; a connected international itinerary keeps its international allowance on the domestic leg.

Check the bag and fare. No airport-specific weighing frequency is established.

SunExpress

SunLight includes one underseat bag up to 40 × 30 × 20 cm and 4 kg. SunValue, SunEco+ and SunComfort include one main cabin bag up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8 kg. The published allowance does not establish a second free personal bag alongside that main bag.

SunLight can be supplemented with the specific 8 kg hand-baggage product. Extra checked-baggage kilograms do not increase the cabin limit. Check the fare and current booking quote, then use the SunExpress guide or fare checker.

Airport procedures and connections

Athens International Airport (ATH)

ATH publishes ordinary liquids limits of containers up to100ml in one resealable1L bag, with separate conditions for necessary medicines, baby food and security-bag purchases. Follow staff instructions for electronics and screening. These security rules do not create a baggage allowance: dimensions, weight and pieces remain airline-specific.

The airport’s current recommendation is arrival at least2.5hours before departure to complete check-in, security and passport control where applicable. Follow your airline’s actual deadlines too. This is not a queue prediction or a safe connection guarantee.

Thessaloniki, island airports and Istanbul connections

Check the actual terminal, gates, transfer path, security/passport requirements and airline-approved connection for your itinerary. Do not rely on claims that a smaller airport is less strict or always faster, a fixed20–25minute walk at IST, or a universal90minute minimum. Separate tickets and additional baggage handling can require a different plan. Confirm mobility assistance with the relevant operator if needed.

Mykonos, Santorini, and Heraklion: Island Airport Caution

For an island connection, check the actual aircraft and fare. Olympic Air turboprops use the smaller 55 × 40 × 23 cm main-bag box; this does not impose a universal 40 × 30 × 15 cm maximum on all cabin items. SKY express has its own 55 × 40 × 23 cm main-bag rule.

Cabin space may still require a compliant bag to go in the hold. Follow the operating carrier’s handover instructions, remove valuables and power banks, and confirm collection at arrival. Aegean Light does not include an extra personal item alongside the main bag.
