Dubai airport baggage: airline limits and DXB procedure

Prepare for DXB screening, separately from your airline allowance

Dubai Airports' current page keeps ordinary liquids at 100 ml per container in one transparent resealable bag, with a 1 litre total and named exceptions. It instructs passengers to keep laptops/tablets accessible for a separate tray and power banks in hand luggage. Follow staff instructions and the operator's battery conditions.

Check both cabin bags before leaving home, but use the current DXB baggage instructions for screening. That calculator result does not cover customs, medicines entry, a transfer procedure or guaranteed cabin storage.

At Dubai International Airport, check the airline’s cabin allowance and the airport’s screening procedure separately. A route through DXB does not give every passenger the same size, weight or free personal item. Confirm the operating carrier, fare and class.

Airline entitlement examples

flydubai’s personal item up to 25×33×20 cm is part of the allowance, not extra weight. Emirates Business/First normally allow a 55×38×22 cm bag and 45×35×20 cm briefcase up to 7 kg each; Brazil, India and garment-bag exceptions require confirmation. Do not assume a marketing flight number transfers this entitlement to another operator.

Use the Emirates guide and flydubai guide for the relevant carrier. Include purchases when checking weight and pieces; no enforcement tolerance or free gate handling is guaranteed.

DXB liquids and checked-bag counters

Dubai Airports states ordinary liquid containers up to 100 ml in a clear resealable 1 litre bag, with named medical, baby and dietary exceptions. Follow the actual inspection instructions. Duty-free needs onward and import checks as well; a sealed purchase is not unconditional permission for every transfer.

The airport’s oversized checked-baggage counter limits describe a hold-bag handling process. They are not an overhead or underseat sizer and do not increase airline entitlement. Confirm any unusual bag with the airline before departure.

If a cabin bag is taken at the gate

Ask about the charge, tag destination and return location before handover. Remove documents, necessary medication and items required to remain in the cabin. FAA guidance keeps spare lithium batteries and powerbanks protected in the cabin; carrier restrictions still apply. Do not assume every installed-battery device is prohibited in the hold or that paying a fee authorizes a larger cabin bag.

Moving between terminals and flights

Dubai Airports says several carriers use Terminal 3, with walking between B/C and a train to A. Check your actual gate and procedure; old claims that Terminal 3 belongs only to Emirates or one train joins every terminal are unreliable.

For separate tickets, confirm entry eligibility, bag collection and new check-in. Transfer assistance has conditions; no service or universal minimum connection time is guaranteed. Follow the actual instructions if a bag was gate-checked.

Arrival and onward travel

Screening, customs, medicine entry and cash declaration have different purposes. Keep the relevant documents reachable and check any transit or destination restrictions.
